Bunnies go pop in Hawaii

We were in California visiting sister bunny and her wild little bunnies. So for thanksgiving, we decided to go where Californians go to holiday. No, not Mexico, the other one, Hawaii.

My imagination of Hawaii (Hawa Hawaii song)

I never thought I would go to Hawaii. My imagination of Hawaii was limited to the Hawa Hawaii song (remember Sridevi?) and feedback from friends who lived in California using words like green, blue, and chill, for Hawaii. Well, it was exactly that.

Much green, such blue (pic below)

When we were leaving for Hawaii, I had 102F fever and had lost my voice. I shivered all the way there like nobody’s business and couldn’t speak for another 3 days (plus 103 F fevers). I was sitting on the beach with a beach hat on and my winter coat like a total whacko. Anyway, going back a step, when we reached our condo (because big hotels be like ugh), my jaw literally dropped. We were right at the edge of water. Not very eco but the views were so goddamn impressive. We saw so many turtles from the balcony that the kids told us not to call them if we saw another one.

View from room

We also saw turtles (or rather did they see us?) while snorkelling at the Blackrock. The turtles were swimming right up to people. One of kids even claimed a turtle kissed him. Very curious behaviour.

Turtle at our door stepping

We also snorkeled at the Molokini crater and Turtle town(most expensive snorkelling ever, number of turtles seen =0). The corals and the visibility were AMAZING but the number of fish was really low.

We saw rainbows everyday in the 🌈 state

We observed the same while diving at the Mala pier. We rented gear and went diving all by ourselves! The handful of fish were compensated by the Gazillions of turtles. Once again the turtles were completely unbothered by the humans. Swiss bunny even spotted this big shark the previous day here. Really nice diving spot- turtley awesome.

Below the condo

When we were coming back from Molokini we decided to stop for lunch at the Millhouse, where the views were OUT of this WORLD. By the time we got out, there was a bushfire nearby. We saw a helicopter bringing seawater and it looked very impressive how the bucket swayed with the helicopter. Very filmy. But it meant that there was a huge traffic jam and we had to take a detour through the mountains to reach home.

View from the Millhouse, the pic does NOT do it justice

It was a one Lane road, super windy, with 10 mph speed limit mostly but the views were sooooo amazing. We could see locals driving their trucks like crazy and even though the driver of our car hated it, I think it was the most memorable day of our trip. Once the baby is older and we can hike, I would like to come back here!

View from the hills

For the rest of the trip, we checked our two other beaches- with one of them having the largest waves I have ever seen and very pretty.

Golden beach

All in all- while it was all really beautiful and the colour of the water took on unbelievable shades of blue, Maui wasn’t all that unique.

It was still fun to travel with family and burying the kids’ crocs in the sand and finding them again with a great amount of digging. And oh yes, kissing turtles was amazing too. All the travel and the $$$, it was worth it. But next time, Didi, can we rather go to Mexico?

Despite the commercialisation in Hawaii
… it’s still very pretty!
