Mummy bunny and Papa bunny came to visit me in my bunny hole in Zurich and, what a busy week we had! We went around Switzerland, to Italy and France, and for a couple of minutes to Germany.
On their first day, we popped in to the Rhine falls for half a day. Here, the Rhine serves as the international border between Germany and Switzerland. I must say it is a good border because the river is fast and furious and impossible to cross unless one takes a tourist boat (like us).
Ze Germans, you shall not pass here.
The yellow thingy (bottom right) is the boat.
These boats go upstream in full throttle and bring people to a rock right in the middle of the river. After climbing some very steep steps, one can see that the river has been busy cutting this very rock and I doubt how long this excursion is going to be allowed.
The Rhine mercilessly cutting rocks in its way. (The rock we were on looked similar).
Before our boat ride, we had to take the lift from the train station and go up to the castle to buy tickets. Now, why do we need to buy tickets was beyond my understanding because one has to come down via stairs, which costs nobody nothing. But the tickets were only 5 francs pp, which might be the cheapest thing in all of Switzerland. Plus, the stairs down offers great picture points.
There is also a very cool small cave from which you are close enough to touch the falls but I recommend against it. Glad of my T-Rex hands.
The Rhine falls is a baby in front of the Niagara, so I would give the Rhine falls only 3.5 carrots.
After this, we went to the top of Zurich on its very own mountain, Uetliberg. One can see a great view of the Alps on a lucky day, but of all the times I have been there this has happened only once. Alps or not, this place gives the best view of the entire city and surrounding areas. Here is a picture:
Next stop Venezia!
