Bunnygoespop in Sanchi

Bhopal is a gem. With 11 lakes and Bougainville boulevards, great food culture and tons of cultural things to do in and around the city, I consider Bhopal as one of the most liveable cities in India. After Indore of course.

Chota talaab

Last year we went to Bheembethka, a UNESCO world heritage site about 45 km from Bhopal which has cave paintings as old as 30000 years old! The awful traffic and one way road till there is totally worth the effort. A bunny will give it four carrots.

This year, we went to Sanchi, about 50 km from Bhopal in another direction (north? I have no direction sense). The road from Bhopal was excellent surrounded by guava trees and pretty farms. Fun fact: you will cross the Tropic of Cancer on this road.

Sanchi was a Buddhist monastery built by the Gupta dynasty in 236 BC and is considered to be the oldest stone structure in India (read the wiki article for some interesting history).

The place itself is beautiful, with these large dome structures (stupas) with chatris showing the accomplishment level of the monks.
Besides the stupas, there are temples with beheaded statues, and lots of carved stones, like pieces of a giant jigsaw piled in a courtyard that somebody needs to put together.

The carved stones courtyard.
Overall, a bunny will give it five carrots! A very happy bunny.
